1800s Craft Fair at Postville Courthouse

In the 1840s, people from all over the area would descend on the town of Postville (now Lincoln) for court dates twice a year. Court dates may have been a time for conducting legal business, but they also were social events where people gathered to sell goods, chat with friends, and listen to the news of the day.

On August 30, the annual 1800s Craft Fair at Postville Courthouse State Historic Site will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to re-create the exitement of such court days. Watch crafters practicing rug hooking, rope making, spinner-weaving, quilting, blacksmithing, broom making, cabinetmaking, coopering, wool dyeing, candle dipping, paper marbleizing, chair making, and more. A Lincoln impersonator will be on hand for the festivities, interpreting a clean-shaven Lincoln in his early years as a prairie lawyer.
